A healthy digestive system is crucial for optimum overall health – it is estimated that 80% of disease begins in the gut, so keeping the digestive tract in good shape affects not only our tummy health, but also our brain, skin, immune system, cardiovascular health and urinary tract, as well as a host of other functions.  Probiotics are microorganisms that supplement the gut's natural bacteria, helping to balance intestinal flora that can be depleted by diet, antibiotics and environmental toxins.

Desert Harvest Probiotic contains a unique strain called Bifidobacterium infantis that when taken daily fortifies the digestive system to defend against imbalance that can contribute to gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, urgency, and other gastrointestinal conditions including ulcerative colitis, leaky gut, constipation and bowel movement irregularity.

Bifidobacterium infantis is cited in numerous clinical studies to help alleviate symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, psoriasis and other autoimmune disorders.  Some strains of probiotics can aggravate autoimmune conditions, but Bifidobacterium infantis is the strain most frequently recommended by gastroenterologists for patients with autoimmune conditions.  In clinical trials, Bifidobacterium infantis was seen to reduce pro-inflammatory biomarkers in both gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal conditions – in other words, it may be effective in treating inflammatory conditions.

Bifidobacterium infantis can help restore the natural balance of good bacteria in the gut, support a daily health and wellness routine and may also help improve energy and mood.  Up to 90 percent of the body's serotonin is made in the digestive tract; altered levels of this peripheral serotonin have been linked to conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis.

Each capsule contains one billion CFU of Bifidobacterium infantis and also includes 200 mg of Super Strength Aloe Vera powder for better nutrient absorption and pain relief. Bifidobacterium infantis is a calorie-free, lactose-free natural dietary ingredient that is similar to the active cultures found in some yogurts and fermented milks.  No need to refrigerate.

100% vegan; gluten-free; no synthetic fillers, binders or artificial ingredients/preservatives; Kosher certified.  IC friendly formula.

As a dietary supplement, take one capsule a day, or as directed by a qualified healthcare provider. Avoid taking within 2 hours of an antibiotic.

Each capsule contains 20 mg (one billion CFU) of Bifidobacterium infantis; 200 mg of organic freeze-dried aloe vera; and a trace amount silicon dioxide as a drying agent (a naturally occurring earth mineral).

Tiny says:  I make absolutely no secret of the fact that I consider addressing digestive health to be absolutely paramount in treating any kind of chronic health condition.  I talk about this extensively in my blog posts – especially this post.  I think it’s vital that anyone with bowel problems, bladder problems, mental health problems, skin problems, asthma, arthritis and innumerable other long-term issues takes their digestive welfare in hand with a good diet and a cleanse, heal and repopulate approach.  Good probiotic supplements are, in my opinion, a cornerstone of such a regime. This product from Desert Harvest is obviously safe for sensitive bladders and the strain is also appropriate for people with autoimmune conditions. If you don’t have an autoimmune condition and you’re not a high histamine type, feel free to take other strains alongside this one or include lots of fermented foods in your daily diet for a really diverse intake of good gut flora.  Note that the reason you’re advised not to take a probiotic within two hours of an antibiotic is because if you took them together, the antibiotic would kill the probiotics and you’d be wasting your money – it doesn’t actually do you any harm!
