Quercetin belongs to a class of antioxidants called flavonoids that give fruits and vegetables their bright colours. Flavonoids support capillary wall stability and healthy collagen development, balance immune response, and provide cardiovascular protection by reducing the oxidation of LDL cholesterol.

There are high levels of quercetin in foods such as tomatoes, peppers, apples, berries and citrus fruits; however, many interstitial cystitis sufferers avoid these foods and therefore don’t get as much dietary quercetin as they should.  This is unfortunate, because quercetin decreases production of the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes that cause systemic inflammation – in other words it is an anti-inflammatory agent!  It has also been shown to inhibit the release of histamine and other immune mediators, so it is widely used by allergy sufferers. Antihistamine medications are often prescribed by doctors to treat IC/BPS and nonbacterial prostatitis. You will find quercetin, among other ingredients, in Cysta-Q (a brand of Farr Laboratories) and in CystoProtek (a brand from Algonot), both studied in the treatment of IC with successful results.  Research published in the European Journal of Pharmacology showed that Quercetin might also prevent bone loss.

This supplement from Desert Harvest facilitates increased quercetin intake without the urinary or stomach distress that some people experience with quercetin-containing foods.  It is IC-friendly and easy on the stomach, with added organic aloe vera which may aid absorption.

All of Desert Harvest’s nutritional supplements use vegetarian/vegan capsules that are Kosher certified and made from 100% natural, plant-derived materials. IC friendly; gluten free; preservative free; starch free; non-GMO; free of common allergens; cGMP compliant.
